Summer is right around the corner and most people have the misconception that makeup “melts” right off in the summer.
Well, that’s because you don’t know how to make it last Martha… that little skin tint that you are wearing is NOT it! Now I’m not saying skin tints are bad, if that’s what you like then go right ahead, but a skin tint will not last in the hot humid weather and a concert.
Now, If you wanna be THAT girl and KILL your makeup this summer it’s time to elevate your game and make sure you look good for ALL of your pictures, nothing sucks more when you take pictures and they are fireee but then you look at the makeup and you look sweaty, super bright under eyes and skin peaking through. So let me show you..
First things first, a good base!! This is superrrr crucial when doing makeup and this is the step that people skip the most, ironic huh? Look, I’m a mom and as a mom you automatically have about 90% less time for yourself than someone who doesn’t have kids. Simplicity in my life is super important so therefore I do everything with intention and efficiency, people over complicate skin prep but me? I’ll give you 5 easy steps to automatically change your skin routine. Now yes prepping before makeup is important but consistency is KEY! So let’s say you prep your skin the way I tell you ONLY when you wear makeup? Yeah, it’ll change your makeup a bit but it’s not really beneficial in the long run, So taking care of your skin on a weekly basis and then following these steps will change everything you know about makeup and skin. Now you can choose to do these whenever you have time, that’s why I say it could be a day and night routine, doesn’t really matter as long as you just DO IT.
Skin Routine Day/Night
Cleanse (moisturizing cleansers, or gel cleansers.)
Exfoliate 3x a week (takes all the dead skin off, yes we shed skin every day. For this I would recommend toners, glycolic acid, vitamin c etc.)
Moisturize (if you’re dry add a serum or double moisturize, oily girls can use gel moisturizers)
Eye cream (everyone forgets the eyes not knowing they’re the part we have to take care of the most!!)
SUNSCREEN (I personally do not recommend sunscreen under makeup, this calls for clogged pores and cakey makeup)
Now that we have a basic easy routine for you the fun begins! The prep before the step! One thing that I like to recommend is dermaplaning or shaving your peach fuzz, this is entirely up to you but It allows makeup to actually sit on the skin vs it sitting on your little face hairs, so remove any unwanted facial hair as best as you can, no it will not come back thicker (unless you have hormonal issues, please seek advice or act to the best of your knowledge) this is just what works for me.
Summer Skin Prep
Cleanse (literally just wash your face haha)
Exfoliate
Moisturize skin and eyes (if you’re dry double moisturize)
Add a GRIPPING primer, I know I said I don’t believe in primers but this is my ONLY exception, this during the summer will make it stayyyyyyy!! Only let it sit for like 5 sec and apply foundation
Do your creams, foundation, cream bronzer, blush and concealer
SPRAY YOUR FIXING SPRAY before blending out your creams, trust this will create an extra layer of hold
PLEASE SET YOUR MAKEUP
I cannot stress enough how important it is to set your makeup, if you feel too dry with powders I suggest adding a hydrating mist after doing your powders. You might also want to consider using a loose powder as it is finely milled so it won’t feel as heavy as a pressed powder.
Set your creams with the powdered version of them ex. Powdered blush, bronzer, highlight etc.
After you have finished all your makeup I suggest using your setting spray to lock that in! My favorite is the One Size Mattifying Waterproof setting spray or the One Size Powder Melt for the dry girlies
Now that you have your PERFECT base go and conquer the world girl! If you try my routine don't forget to take pictures and tag me!
